MY STORY

Some of my earliest memories of creating art was making comics based on cartoons and shows I liked as a kid. I remember reading Russian-translated Spider-Man comics and falling in love with the character that seemed so far away from me, but one I could still relate to. I would often create whole books with characters I enjoyed, often just including images without writing any dialogue or descriptions. In Kyrgyzstan, we often had carpets on walls to preserve heat in our apartment, so whenever I would finish a piece of art my mother would hang it up on the carpet for everyone to see. Our whole living room was covered with drawings and it made me feel very accomplished and artistically fulfilled. When I moved to another country where I could not speak the language, the one constant in my life was the drawings I made. I would keep making small comics and cartoons and would even communicate with my English-speaking classmates with drawings and it would help me gain a connection that I could not gain by speaking. I always liked to entertain myself and others and when I gained the knowledge of the English language, I would create stories for my friends that we would play out during recess. Story and story structure fascinated me and I began to study how to write plot progressions and unique tales. Making my stories a reality pushed me to become a better artist, so that I could visualize everything that is in my mind, and as much as I like thinking about the stories, my favorite part of it is sharing them with others. I want to eventually publish the work that I have been working on, and going to Ringling College to learn more about 3D animation is just one of the steps I can get to the goal of sharing my stories with as many people as I can.
